I’m wondering whether there’s any way in Keras to randomly select specific layers of a pre-trained imageNet model.
I’m using a pre-trained model and want to randomly select certain layers of the model to change the data input to the network.
In Keras it’s possible to randomly change the input of a model with the ‘random_seed’ argument in the first place. However, I want to add a layer to the model that’s already been built. The Keras documentation for pre-trained models doesn’t show how you can add additional layers.
Does anyone know how to do this in Keras? I could of course do it in TensorFlow (the underlying backend of Keras) but the code would be far too long and tricky to maintain.


The random_seed argument is applicable when you are initialising a model with Keras. With model.summary() you can see the list of layers in the model.

Once you have the list of layers in the model, you can then make a random choice of which layer to add.
If you only want to add layers to a pre-trained model, then you can reuse the saved model.
